Ryan Liberty, irving oil

WHEN DID YOU JOIN ROTARY? 2007

WHAT MADE YOU WANT TO JOIN ROTARY? My brother had been a member of the Waterville Sunrise Club and had many good things to say about his Rotary experience.  When my employer, Irving Oil, suggested to its employees that they engage the community in some way…Rotary was naturally the first choice for me.  I remember attending my very first meeting as a guest, and the speaker that day had returned from a Rotaplast trip.  The results of her work were dramatic!  Rotary was changing lives and I wanted to be a part of it.

SINCE BEING IN ROTARY ARE THERE ANY SPECIFIC PROJECTS THAT YOU ARE MOST PROUD OF? WHY? I’ve been pleased with the way that the community has embraced the renewed Wells HarborFEST.  This festival has become an important community event, and it provides an opportunity for multiple non-profits to raise money for their causes.

TELL ME ABOUT YOURSELF: WHAT IS YOUR LINE OF WORK? WHAT GOT YOU IN THE FIELD? WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE HOBBYS? WHAT DO YOU WANT OTHER ROTARIANS AND MEMBERS OF THE COMMUNITY TO KNOW ABOUT YOU? WHAT DO YOU HOPE TO GAIN OUT OF THIS ROTARY CLUB? I’ve been married to Colleen Bovaird for the last 5 years.  I have two grown children and two grandchildren. I’ve worked for Irving Oil for the last 20 years.  Recently I transitioned to the Blending & Packaging Division which sells motor oils, gear & hydraulic oils, etc.
I enjoy being involved in the community.  Over the years I’ve coached my children in football, basketball, baseball and softball.  I’ve also served on the Benton Board of Selectmen for six years (two as chair),
Kennebec County Budget Committee, Wells Budget Committee, Historical Society board of directors, Wells Chamber of Commerce board of directors, and been active with the Wells Conservation Commission. I enjoy hunting and fishing. As president, I’ve been lucky to have inherited a club that has a strong membership and deep meaningful traditions.  I hope to build upon that and to build lifelong friendships along the way.
